Surge Protection Strategies for Industrial Control Cabinets
Layer Type 1/2/3 SPDs with correct equipotential bonding to protect PLCs and drives from lightning and switching surges.

Transient overvoltages destroy I/O cards and VFDs far more often than short circuits. A coordinated SPD cascade—service entrance, distribution board, and point-of-use—limits residual voltage.
Follow manufacturer max continuous operating voltage (Uc) guidance and keep lead lengths short. Document replacement intervals after surge events.
Combine SPDs with proper earthing and screened signal cables for analog loops and fieldbuses.
