Understanding IP and IK Ratings for Outdoor Enclosures
IP65 is not enough if impact resistance is poor—match IK codes to vandal-prone or coastal sites.
Ingress protection (IP) covers dust and water; IK codes quantify mechanical impact. Outdoor meter cabinets and EV pedestals often need both high IP and IK08+.
Gasket quality, UV-stable plastics, and stainless fasteners matter as much as the rating stamp.
Verify cable gland IP continuity—one poorly sealed entry can void the enclosure rating.
